So what makes Internet Poker Rankings so special?
InternetPokerRakings.com's ranking system is the first objective ranking system, started in January of 2006.
In 2008, IPR is starting the first objective ranking system of international players.
What are the two standing columns on the home page?
The IPR homepage displays two standings. The left column shows the 2008 US IPOY race and the right column shows the 2008 International IPOY race.
Why do you have two races?
International players are at a disadvantage in all of the current ranking systems as many of the tournaments
tracked do not start at convenient times for European players. There are also a lot of international players
playing in big tournaments which do not accept US players. The International IPOY was created to rank these
players who are excelling at non-US sites and in tournaments where the majority of international players play.
I notice you have a few tournaments in the International Race with prizepools in £ and €. How are these results figured in?
These tournaments are converted from their currency to US$ the day they are played.
Once converted they are not subject to market fluctuations.
Can I participate in both races?
Yes. Players from all over the world are eligible for both races. The designations of US and International are simply
in reference to user-friendly tournament times for those regions and for poker sites which permit or do not permit US players.
Where do I see the schedule of tournaments which are tracked?
Click on the schedule tab at the top of IPR. In the top-right you will see a drop-down box to choose
between the US and International tournament calendars.

I see one of my usernames on the rankings, what should I do? |
| You should register all of your usernames to one name - so that we are tracking all of your winnings accurately. You can also optionally provide us with some bio information to include for your player stats. Otherwise, you don't need to do anything, other than continue to play well.

I see more than one of my usernames in the rankings,
what should I do? |
| You should register all of your usernames to one name - so that we are tracking all of your winnings accurately. You can also optionally provide us with some bio information to include for your player stats.
How do I register my usernames? |
| At the top of this page in the bottom right of the blue box, you will find a login link. Click on this link, select your preferred username, and then list your usernames at each different site.
Where do I signup at the various poker sites?
If you are not a Member of a participating site, we ask that you support IPR and signup
through the links here.
How will you verify the players?
| Currently, usernames are self-registered on the honor system. If two players claim the same username at a particular site, each will be contacted to verify their identity. As the top ranked players become more apparent, they will be contacted to verify their usernames individually.
Why do you use usernames rather than real names? |
| We have collected data directly from the Poker sites involved. As you know, online poker is an anonymous game and as such the usernames are actual players that have yet to be registered and verified. All players who register have the option to provide their real name. Towards the end of the year, we will verify the real names of the top-ranked players if they wish to have them listed. No one is required to submit his real name for public viewing and ITH will respect your privacy. However, top ranked players will be asked for their real name and contact information to confirm the validity of their linked usernames. Those players still have the option on whether or not they want their name communicated to the public.
What if I don't want to use my real name?
| That's okay for display purposes.
However, in order to confirm the validity of you and your usernames,
we will have to know your real name and contact information.
How are points calculated?
Internet Poker Rankings calculates points based on the square root of the amount
of money that player cashes in a tournament.
Why not just use money won as the determining factor in rankings?
Currently, the structure of multi-table
tournaments place a lot of weight towards finishing in the top three.
In many circumstances, first place is winning twice of what third
place is winning. We don't believe that 1st place is more than twice
as good as 3rd place in the tournament, and therefore we don't feel
they deserve more than twice the points. We use the square root to
smooth out the payout, to reward winners but not give them an undeserved
advantage.
How do I find my ranking or the ranking of another player?
| Simply use the search player feature located on the menu bar at the top of the site. You can search through all sites, or on just one site to limit your results.
Do you rank the players by each individual poker site?
| Our overall standings on both the standings page and the front page include all sites. On the standings page, you can filter by poker site to see how players rank within a certain site.
What if I see a tournament that isn't covered by the Player of the Year, but I believe it should be?
| If you see a large tournament that you
feel we should be covering in the Player of the Year standings, please
contact us at playeroftheyear@internettexasholdem.com. We'll be glad to look into
any tournaments to see if they fit the Player of the Year tournament
criteria.
Where else can I find Poker online?
| There are many places on the web that you can find poker, depending on whether or not you want to read about poker, find tips on how to beat people at poker, or play the game for yourself. The net is set up for all these things, including real life gambling or just to play for free. The most obvious places are on flash game websites, where you can mainly play for free as they are imitations of the real thing.
